125x125 Getting a Reliable Web Hosting Service Helps Pursuit Money Making Opportunities OnlineOne of the biggest problems which bloggers worry about is hitting by blog hosting server down. Especially when you are pursuing money making opportunities online with your blog, every second of down time is a loss. It is not just money, you might also miss potential business deals and other money making opportunities. This is the reason why bloggers should find a reliable web hosting service with great support and able to resolve problems efficiently.

As a blogger, creating schedule to backup you blogs is a must. Having a complete backup file of you blogs in your desktop or laptop can really help during emergency situation. If the blog hosting server is down and you have no way to contact the support group, or in other words the blog hosting server company suddenly vanish from the face of the earth, you still have your backup file to rebuilt your blog.

There are plenty of ways to backup your blogs into your computer. You can install a WordPress plugin to perform the backup or use the backup service included in cPanel. As for me, I’m using WordPress plugin “Online Backup for WordPress” There are two important things which you need to backup in order to rebuilt your blog. First is the database, second is the complete files which include themes folder, plugin folder and image folder. All these can be done by a single click using the WordPress plugin above.

My blog was down couple of days ago and I decided to move my blog to a new web hosting Service Company. HostGator is my choice because there is a 45 days money back guarantee. I sign up for an account and purchase a one year hosting service under Hatching Plan. I uploaded all my files to the new server using my latest backup file. I created a new database under MySQL Database and assign a new user to it. Next I edit the wp-config.php file to include the new database setting.

/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘cpuser_dbname‘);

/** MySQL database username */
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘cpuser_uname‘);

/** MySQL database password */
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘******‘);

Database name (cpuser_dbname), Database user (cpuser_uname) and Database password (******) needs to define according to the new database I created. Then I use phpMyAdmin to import my backup database into my new database. The import process took some time to complete and I did encounter some errors. Several emails were sent to HostGator support group and they manage to solve the errors in less than 24 hours. By the way I also head to my domain registered company to change the server names that point to my domain name. Although I did encounter some errors and problems while setting up my blog, but the support group was able to rebuild my blog in less than 24 hours.

Overall I like the service and support provided by HostGator. When I was transferring my blog to HostGator, my main concern is the total down time of my blog which I need to spend. As it took less than 24 hours to make my blog up and running again, it is a relief for me. Although I have not tested out other web hosting service company to compare the services provided by HostGator, the company has fulfill the most important basic services required. That is to make the blog or website up and running within the shortest time, which is less than 24 hours.

P/S: HostGator has an affiliate program which we can participate to make extra money. Members can make at least $50 per successful sign up. If you are able to get at least 21 sign up per month, you will earn $120 per successful sign up.

    Two really useful things to keep in mind when looking to host a blog, first one is, if your blog is going to get a decent ammount of traffic, look at VPS hosting. Specially if there’s going to be a lot of hosted images or videos. You’d be surprised how quickly your shared hosting can hit its limits or be disabled when a blog picks up followers.

    Second is to make sure you’re purchasing from a reputable company, I tend to check out a previous customer and ask them personally for their experiences.
