Selling your time or selling your skill?

Basically there are two types of method to make money either you are running your own business or working as an employee. You can either sell your time or your skill. But if you are working as an employee, you are mostly selling your time. Your skill, knowledge and profession are basically the criteria to set the rate for your monthly salary. Is this the best way to make money? Well, I think it really depends on how you feel about it. But if you are mainly about trying to make a lot of money, working for others is definitely not the way. The reason is simple. Your potential earning is cap when you work for others. The amount of work and accomplishment you achieve will only affect your salary and the work position that you are holding. The truth is, your boss will be the one that is earning the most from all the work and effort that you have done. Is it fair? Well, it is not about fairness. It is just the choice or decision you made.

If you are starting your own business or trying to become an entrepreneur, time is no more a factor to you. This is because you are no longer getting paid for the time that you spend on doing the work. You are getting paid for the work that you have done or your accomplishment. That means you can make a lot of money if you are able to get things done within a short period of time. Of cause you need to control your cost or expenditure so that you don’t spend more than you earn. This is where your skill or ability helps to boost your earning potential. In order to improve your skill or ability, knowledge is very important. Your learning ability and attitude towards improving yourself constantly will help construct a solid foundation for your business and earning potential.

Will you choose to sell your skill with the potential to make a lot of money or decide to convert your time to a fix amount of money which varies according to market value? I suppose it depends on how much money you are trying to earn.
