Guru is another site for employers to look for freelancers and freelancers look for jobs. It’s just like Elance. For start you can just sign up as a basic member. Get a few jobs done and established your brand and skills to the employers then only decide to paid membership. Being a paid member does not mean that you are guaranteed project work. The benefits that interest me to sign up as paid member is reduce of 5% transaction fees. That means if I’m a paid member, only 5% of project payment value will go to Guru.com in stead of 10%. If you are working on a large project that pays well then you might want to consider it. If not then better stay as basic member. The price of the paid membership is not cheap. There are range from $29.95 to $99.95 and $38.94 to $129.94 per quarter. So you need to consider the amount that you are able to earn from the projects before signing up. Start from the basic member and I’m sure if you are that good then people will come to you. If that is the case then there’s no reason for you to sign up as paid members.
