When Google introduces a better way to reach customers, that means an update or change in their search algorithm. Although the changes is small but if you pay close attention while surfing, you might notice the search results varies according to your online behavior. Especially when you login to your Google account such as Gmail, you can witness a significant difference within Google search results. Check out the blog post title “A better way to reach customers on the Google Display Network” from Google Inside AdWords. Starting on January 15th 2015, “Other interests” will no longer be a targeting option for new and existing audience campaigns in Google AdWords. Advertisers are required to select affinity, custom affinity or in-market audiences.
So how does this affect blogs and websites? If you are hoping to gather lots of traffic and getting higher search ranking from Google search engine, you need to package or build your blog or site base on affinity, custom affinity or in-market audiences. Yup, that’s right. You need to focus either on driving brand awareness, elaborate and custom-tailor specifically on a certain topic or providing opinion and advice for online shoppers. So the question is how do we modify our blog or website in favor of such changes? I suppose nobody has the exact answer. All we can do is test it out, try and error. But I do have some thoughts and ideas on how to approach this algorithm. I’ll discuss more about it later.
