15th Making Your Blog Dofollow
There has been a lot of discussion about nofollow or dofollow. First of all Google is the one that introduced the nofollow concept. Thus you can see many free blog services like Wordpress and Blogger have adapted it. Well this surely has to do with Google page rank. This is actually good to prevent spammer from getting any credits of page rank from the blogs that they comment.
What benefits do we bloggers gain from having a nofollow on our blog? Nofollow was created for search engine page rank, not for bloggers. In fact it is better to have dofollow for blogs. Bloggers need to use it wisely and not misusing it. It?s like a sharp edge knife which you can use it to hurt people or safe lives. It depends on how you use it.
Having dofollow is a good way to reward those that took their time to read your post and leave a good comment. A link love to their blogs is never too much. As for the spammers that aim to get links and page rank credits, all you need to do is delete their comments or install Akismet to catch the spam. If you do it right and able to control it nicely I don?t see why we can?t benefits from this.
Readers that are seriously wanted to get some link love will eventually read the post and place a good comment. This will increase interaction between bloggers and both parties will gain benefits from this. It?s a win win situation for both sides. New comers that initially just wanted to get some link love might get to know your blog and become your loyal readers instead. So why shouldn?t we go for dofollow?

My blog is do follow as well, but I never put up the badge. Wonder if it the badge makes a difference really.
@ Toni - Yea Google’s cracking down on linking to advertisers. Mat Cutt’s last statement from the recent blog expo made it clear that if a link has some monetary value to you, it should be no follow.
Great article for those thinking about making the switch to dofollow status! As for which plugin to use, Semiologic’s version is great, but there are many dofollow plugins currently available 
I’m a do-follow blog, but it took a lot of work to make the thing that way. TypePad is a great platform, but you have to be willing to put up with being an advanced template blog (no easy plug-ins and limited technical help) and every time you want to change your design you have to do the whole thing over again. It’s worth it though. However, some of the people I started with on the do-follow thing ended up putting special requirements on their blogs before they became do-follow, as there were/are people actually compiling lists of these blogs then spamming them with the small, useless, get-a-link for nothing comments. I can’t do that on TypePad (not enough experience and tech savvy) so I just have to keep comment moderation enabled.
Why not switching it to Wordpress? Get a nice domain name and host it with wordpress. Save you a lot of time doing repeated work. Beside you can still keep the previous blog and just redirect your readers to the new blog. I think this will bring more benefits if you consider it long term.

I had long been thinking of destroying the evil no follow, but I was too lazy (and worried about breaking things while playing) to manually rip it out of my theme.
Well, if you take it one step at a time and monitor the changes in your blog then you should be able to reverse the changes if thing goes wrong. Improvement and changes need to be done if you seriously want to get more traffic. Don’t worry, it should be fine.
Yeah, I need to actually dig in and make some changes. I am decent and tracking changes and troubleshooting problems, I just need to get over being lazy. Although during the past week or so I seem to be beating that particular problem.
Well, one thing good about being lazy. We try not to repeat the same work. That means work smart instead or work hard. Which is good for long term practice. Cheers.
i just became a u comment, i follow blog last week, even though my blog is still very new. But the other thing about u comment, i follow is that i have been using it to build links to my website that i’ve had up for a couple of years. I don’t think that is spamming is it? and i’ve only been commenting on sites that are similar to my site (art and art therapy, self-help). what are people’s thoughts on that?
I think it depends on how you write your comments. Placing a comment that shows you really read through the post will be fine. Simply put up an unrelated comment will send it to spam.
And it helps to put the banner up. I have received a lot more comments on my blog after I have. There are also a few lists online that you can add your blog to. Just search for “dofollow blog list”.
