The New Alexa Ranking System
My Alexa ranking drops tremendously couple of days ago. It turns out that Alexa is having a big change in their ranking system. According to Alexa, the changes are basically as below.
- More Sources – Alexa rankings are now based on more sources of data to give a better indicator of website popularity.
- Improved Methodology – We are normalizing the traffic from our global panel to provide consistently accurate rankings for all countries.
- Better Rankings – The rankings are now an even better indication of website popularity due to new and improved algorithms.
Changes are good, especially for stuff related to information and communication. How these changes affected your blog? Well, you can look as this as a way to evaluate your blog. The change in the ranking system gives you an alternative way to look at your blog. Sometimes we tend to blog for the ranking instead for our readers. If we built our blog straightly towards our readers, any changes within the ranking system will not affect much on our blog. A good example is the effect of Entrecard towards the blog ranking with the previous Alexa ranking system. That ranking is built mostly because of cards drop through your blog, not because people visited your blog for information. Surf around and you’ll find other opinion regarding the change of the ranking system.

Strangely, we are seeing a consistent increase in the number of unique visitors through Statcounter.com, the changes in Alexa ranking are slightly dis-aligned.
Wondering, how to make our visitors install Alexa Tool bar!!!
